Vitamins- Promotes Good Health or the Biggest Medical Scam Around
to take or not to take
I always gave my kids vitamins, you know the kind they chew, when they were growing up, because we all know that kids just do not eat the things that are good for them always. What is a parent to do? After all, it is an easy way to get the nutrients down them that they need for bone growth, and general health benefits, right?
It wasn't until my boy had kidney failure that I got the information that I am going to share with you right now, that opened my eyes and gave me the information and knowledge that is not commonly shared with everyone who has a child. I did not understand why my pediatrician had not told me and why it took a near death experience to pull the truth and facts out of the medical system that I should have known before this time.
I will tell you how I found out, and what I found out, and why I discovered what I did. Our kidneys are the organs that filter out all the "extra" vitamins and minerals we eat and that our systems do not need. If our kidneys fail, all these vitamins and minerals remain in our blood and become toxic to us, actually poisoning us eventually. When our kidneys fail, and the doctors prescribe dialysis, the machines that remove, filter and return clean blood to our bodies, are essentially removing those unneeded vitamins and minerals as well as toxins we have in our blood.
When it comes to vitamins, the American public has been misinformed or completely uninformed as to the value of taking vitamin supplements. One of the ways that doctors have used in controlling the toxins in the blood of kidney patients is to have them take massive amounts of calcium tablets with each meal. The calcium then adheres molecule by molecule to other vitamins and minerals we eat in our food that they would later only have to filter out, making the dialysis a much easier and less traumatic way to clean the blood.
While explaining this to me, and explaining how vitamins are assimilated into our blood, is when and how I discovered the validity of those supplements we so religiously eat every day. I was questioning the doctors about the calcium, and was told to buy one specific brand of calcium, and was told that the other brands would not do the same things to my son. When I asked why, this was when I found out the truth about many of the supplements we take.

One a Day, Should we bother?
During the three months that I had to spend at Children's Hospital in Hollywood, California, learning how to care for my son, learning how to do a home dialysis, and learning a lot about food, nutrition, the values of what we eat, and what he should not eat, this is when I learned what I did about the vitamin world.
All parents think, for the most part that if their child does not want to eat certain foods, or if we as parents cannot get a child to eat foods that are full of the good nutritional things they need to grow and be healthy, that by simply popping the children's chewable one a day, they are covered, as far as diet goes for that child to have what he needs.
Nothing could be further from the truth for several reasons. First and foremost, the vitamins themselves are manufactured in a compound that is oil based, and will not break down in our bodies, especially if not eaten with food. Food must be eaten with the vitamin to get any benefit at all from it. This is in part due to the inability to break down the oil, for the water based calcium we were given was assimilated right away, but again this was with food.
I was told that 90% of the nutritional value of vitamin pills was simply eliminated along with everything else when we have a bowel movement. We eliminate this 90% pretty much in the same form as we swallow it in. Only 10% of any vitamin we take, if eaten with food is broken down enough to get any value from it.
I feel this should be indicated on the label of any vitamin or supplement we take. It is very misleading to think that we are getting a full days worth of any nutrient we are taking, when in fact, we are getting at best, a mere 10% of that.
I could be wrong, for it has been a very long time since I took these courses in this area of study, but at least talk to your doctors or your children's doctors about this subject, for it would be more than a travesty if something went wrong with a child's health due to this misleading information.
The saddest part of this is that we are taking chances with our children's health, and mainly because of the need and greed of the manufacturers of these and other products put on the shelf for our use. The responsibility is up to us, as adults to take the time to research it out and find the truth, for it is out there. Do it for the children......
