Why It's Alright To Be Childish

Definition Of Childish

Being childish typically has negative connotations as it used to describe immature behaviour demonstrated by an individual. Even more so with grown-ups. My definition of childish is letting your inner child shine!

Why It's Alright To Be Childish (Depends)

Form Friendships

You will find that there are like-minded people out there who have the same interests as you in activities that break free from the harsh realities of life. Harsh realities of life could stem from your relationship with your wicked step mother, your heavy load of work in the office or anything that is giving you a lot of pressure. The activities I am referring to are the ones that allow us to interact or engage with others like gaming and karaoke.

Being Yourself

Although we grow older, we should not forget to separate social norms and our unique personalities. I believe our authentic self is overcome by influences from society, media and culture. We are influenced because we grow more conscious of our reputation more than our own happiness.

You Learn From Curiousity

Children are curious and this curiousity should not stop when we grow up but obviously do not let curiousity kill the cat!

Stephen Hawking quoted, “Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don’t just give up."

You Can Be A Good Babysitter

If you know how to have fun, then you know how to entertain the baby in a harmless way like letting the baby play with a toy. You can come up with creative games to educate the baby.

You Have A Sense Of Humour

You know how to not take life too seriously. You and surrounding people feel happier and "laughter is the best medicine".

Unlock Your Creativity

The acceptance of an idea depends on the context. If you're making music, creativity is essential to make a wonderful piece of art. If you are asked for facts, creativity is limited. There are exceptions like creativity can be used in conveying facts through presentation tools without distorting or altering the information. For example, mind maps, clip arts and videos. In fact, creativity is also not stifled when asked to present in factual context when it comes to 4 kinds of creativity.

Don't Let Being An Adult Stop You From Being A Child At Heart

You can behave maturely as an adult but that does not mean you have to restrain yourself from wanting to go to Disneyland, having Pokemon or Star Wars collectibles or anything which you think should be banned from adulthood.

Adulthood is another phase in life and it tricks us into thinking we should act a certain way to be labelled as adults.

When It May Not Alright To Be Childish

Personal Responsibilities

We have to pick up after ourselves if we play by own rules. We can be subject to legal action or be morally accountable.

Dependent On Others

Humans are social animals by nature and it is only natural to want to form emotional bonds with others but this is not always the case if you are seeking to be independent.

Delusive Childish Fantasy

Growing up, I have watched Disney princesses and typically, Prince Charming will come to their rescue. Of course, there must be a happy ending because Disney is idealistic and it is love story after all. The issue is that girls will be brought up to think that they are not independent and need Prince Charming. This is unrealistic and in this day and age, feminism is big and women need to be empowered and not seen as weak.

At Work

To what extent we can be our authentic selves is predetermined by the situation. We should judge how we may be able to retain our authentic selves while obeying social norms by acting professionally.
