The use of wisdom can go hand in hand with happiness

The Irish people for centuries have cherished happiness. Irish-American songs like “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling” (published in 1912 by Chauncey Olcott and George Graff, Jr.) prove an Irish descendant’s love for the Irish culture as well as being happy and merry. Many have found the Irish to be uplifting because of their inherent cheery nature. Like other European nationalities, The Irish culture places significance on happiness; as something to cherish and a state to achieve.

Continual cheerfulness is a sign of wisdom. – Irish saying, author unknown

According to the handy Thesaurus in Microsoft Word, the word “cheerfulness” is a synonym for the word “happiness.” Other synonyms for the word “cheerfulness” are joyfulness, cheer, cheeriness, jollity, exuberance, optimism and brightness. Each one of these words definitely describes the Irish people to a tee. Many find the Irish merry zest for life appealing and contagious.

Furthermore, this well-known Irish saying indicates that wisdom is equated with cheerfulness. Since cheerfulness is a synonym for happiness one could fittingly conclude that incessant happiness is a sign of wisdom. Therefore, a wise person would be one that incorporates, through the proper use of his wisdom, happiness in his lifestyle.

Many who have implemented more wisdom usage in their lives have found a profound positive difference in their happiness levels. Wisdom properly employed seems to notably increase this. How one incorporates wisdom into one’s life is vital. It is not easy to make wise decisions that reap happier and healthful consequences. A good method for implementing wisdom in one’s life is to ask one’s self, before making a life altering decision, this question: “Will this positively improve my life, direct me toward true inner happiness?” If the answer to this question is “yes,” and does no harm to one’s self or others, do that action. If the answer is “no,” do the opposite.

Love, health and happiness are important

Those who have been around an Irish descendant or someone directly from Ireland have noticed they are generally genuinely inherently cheerful happiness seekers and promoters. The Irish are traditionally reared knowing inspiring uplifting sayings, blessings and proverbs. Many Irish blessings place enormous importance on happiness.

May you always have walls for the winds,
a roof for the rain, tea beside the fire,
laughter to cheer you, those you love near you,
and all your heart might desire.

– Irish blessing, author unknown

This well-known Irish blessing descriptively wishes a happy life toward others. This blessing expresses laughter and love as necessary ingredients for a happy life. It has been proven that laughter has a tendency to share a feeling of elation and is an excellent mood brightener. A laughing person does not feel unhappiness for it is extremely difficult to laugh when sad.

For each petal on the shamrock.
This brings a wish your way
Good health, good luck, and happiness
For today and every day.

– Irish blessing, author unknown

This particular known Irish blessing places a need for happiness, health and good luck in a person’s life. This blessing given when handing someone a Shamrock is a beautiful uplifting wish. Not only does the person giving this blessing feel benevolent as they are sincerely saying this, the person receiving this loving gesture feels special and blessed while reminded of the importance for having excellent health and happiness in one’s life.

None of these Irish blessings are new. They come from Ireland's rich cultural past. These positive blessing reminders are truly noteworthy for they instill an appreciation for having good health, happiness, laughter and love in one’s life. All of these are valid ingredients for a truly happy life.

The Irish people have for generations shared the importance of wisdom, good health, love and happiness. Irish are naturally pro having a happy lifestyle. Many Oklahomans are Irish descendants and have grown up hearing the numerous traditional inspiring Irish songs, sayings and blessings.

My home state, Oklahoma, has proven neighbors from copious nationalities can contentedly reside in the same happy community in appreciation of each others’ cultural differences while frequenting their favorite Irish Pub and Irish restaurants in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City areas who welcome all to visit. There is nothing like delicious Irish cuisine to help one smile. Maybe this is one of the reasons why the United States Postal Service lists Oklahoma as OK!
