Wrestling With The Day

It is a tug of war...you can win!
I find it a standing joke that, if we make a comprehensive list of all the things we ought to do today, it will be time for bed before we have done a single thing...even if we didn't eat all day.
Here is a suggested way to keep that list really short, get the most important things done, and still include time to sit down and rest periodically:
....Sit down. Write down the next thing that has to be done first.
....Stand up. Do what you just wrote down, allowing only 5 minutes for interruptions.
....Sit down with a glass of water. Drink the water. Cross off what you just did. Write down what has to be done next. Finish the water.
....Stand up. Do what you just wrote down, allowing only 5 minutes for interruptions.
....Continue this approach, allowing time for snacks and water, as needed, (taking 5 minutes only) through the day. When the last snack (call it dinner or supper) has been consumed, take a look back at how much you have accomplished, and what disrupted this simple plan.
....Make mental notes about the disruptions and how to best avoid them tomorrow.
....While still sitting as your day ends, write down the next thing that has to be done first on a page with tomorrow's date, and have that final glass of water for the day. You've earned it!
Note:
There will be distractions, most of them urging you to impulsively turn aside for such things as checking the mail, getting a snack, feeding an animal, etc. Be persistent. You can even jot down the things which might have interrupted today's quest, as long as you do not get further distracted.
Then, when the "Do Time" has been exhausted for today, review what you have accomplished. Give yourself a pat on the back, and take a quick look at the first priority you will accomplish first thing tomorrow.
