Your cervix will dilate when ready most of the time. It can be dangerous to the baby to be born before 39 weeks because their lungs haven't matured fully. I know how it can be, waiting and waiting, but in the end it's worth it!
I've had 6 children. 3 were vaginally and 3 were c-section. I dilated at different times with each - yep, even with the babies born c-section. My last three were breech position, so I dilated later than with the first 3. Every pregnancy and labor is different.
While you are waiting, if you do want to help things along, try walking and doing housework. Your motion can help your baby settle lower in the pelvis which will put pressure on your cervix. But, steer clear of a lot of stuff you find online about inducing labor - like my mid-wives liked to say, Baby needs to bake. Some of the things you find can be harmful and put stress on you and your baby, like castor oil. It's disgusting, gives you diarrhea and can cause your baby to have it's first bowel movement in the womb.
Just relax and enjoy the last few weeks, you'll miss the kicks and hiccups. Good luck with your upcoming new baby!
