What do you do to stop thinking about something embarrassing you did?
Sometimes, the obsessive thoughts about what you were thinking, what you could have done differently and what other people think about you are a bigger deal than the embarrassing event. What do you do when the advice "just don't think about it" doesn't work?
Just think about the bigger scheme of things. Will this even matter in a week? What if something dreadful happened in your life that hasn't. I think this should put it into perspective.
Maybe by trying not to think about it, you become more conscious of every thought. How about, try to think about it more. Then, you'll catch your mind drifting on to other things and realize you're not in fact constantly on the embarrassing subject. It may sound an odd suggestion, but it can work. Your perception of how much you think about things can change.
Stop and think than look for answer outside of the box by going through the problem backward. The answer sometime can be looking you in the face. It might not give you an solution you wanted but offer another option.

What did you think about when you thought you were going to die?I'm sure there are many of us who have felt sure we were at the end of our lives for some reason or another. I'm not concerned with why you felt this way, just what you were thinking.
