Two things I would investigate are meal replacements and powders that bodybuilder types use to bulk up.
Meal replacements such as Ensure can be drunk between meals so you are not only getting the calories and goodness from the food you eat at mealtime; but, you are adding additional calories in the form of the meal replacement.
Most health food stores have tins of powders that are supposed to help bulk up the user. Again, it would be a healthful way to add additional calories to your diet. These powders are mixed in water, milk or juice so it can be real pick-me-up in the afternoon.
If you can't find them in the stores that cater to the European trade in China, you could probably find them online.
Hello,
I have been a diabetic for yrs now so i can understand where you are comming from. i also lost a lot of weight due to my type 1 diabetes.
To help me understand, and give you the answers you are looking for I will need to know about the diet that was sugested for you by your doctor. If you like feel free to contact me via my personal email, at mike.schroeder60@yahoo.com.
In the mean time I will do some research to find some answers for you.
I am not a physician or a diabetic but I have a son who has been a type I for about 12 years now...diagnosed at age 11. For a number of years he had the same issue. On that basis of the results of his situation, I would suggest that you first execute the home test for ketosis. The best way I can describe that condition is to say that it is the same principle by which the "Adkins Diet" works. The body is deprived of fat intake and thus begins to consume its own fat as a supplement. If you are sticking with a lean, low carb, high protein diet, then you may be driving yourself into ketosis without being aware of the situation. The home test consists of urinating on a color coded swab which will turn a particular color to identify the ketosis. You can get your doctor to prescribe these or talk with a pharmacist about it and see what he/she reccomends. This test should be a frequent part of your diabetic testing. Step up the pace on your blood sugar checks for a while and see if you are running high more often that not. If so, you may not have a high enough insulin intake to offset the carbs you are getting. In the initial stages of Type I, you have to be very careful in defining the amount of carbs you plan to consume and balance the insulin accordingly. The other indicator is a test which the doctor will have to perform called the A1C test. It measures the sugar saturation levels in your blood. I suspect you need a higher level of food intake with a reasonable level of carbs included and to consult with your doctor on raising the insulin dosage to help balance it. As you get more familiar with the process, you will be able to make these calculations yourself. The big thing which made a terrific difference for my son was using a balanced diet of good fresh foods and working out regularly. Once he proved to the doctors that he could efficiently manage his A1C level, the doctors allowed him to go on an insulin pump which helped to smooth out his hi/low peaks. He currently has an A1C level of a non-diabetic much of the time. Unfortunately, he lived recklessly with the condition for years before accepting it and taking control. We are extremely proud of the results he has achieved. WB

Greetings fellow hubbers! My hub about chronic pain used to have a nice score in the 80's and since tweaking it a few weeks ago, the score is stuck in the 70's. I think it was over-tweaked and now I'm at a loss as to how to fix it. Please, I humbly ask for your opinions to give it the "Extreme...

I spent a ton of time researching this hub and I'm very proud of it. I constantly use it myself as a reference, instead of searching online, so I know it's very useful. But, it doesn't get any traffic. Would anyone be willing to check it out and please give me suggestions on what...

I was told yesterday that people believe in the unexplained because they just really, really, really want to believe. I know that anyone that has been broadsided by the unexplainable probably considers this type of thinking offensive on some level. So, I think it would be nice if those who have had...
