Have you had to evacuate your home quickly due to an emergency situation?
...in case of fire, flooding or other emergency situation? Did you have an Emergency Plan in case you need to evacuate your house quickly?
We are fortunate to have never HAD to evacuate, however, we have practiced evacuation because the elementary schools here talk about that with kids and ask them to practice. We pretend that we have a fire in various rooms of our house. Then we review all the exits, including windows, to decide which would be the safest one to exit from. We have had the kids attempt evacuations from their bedroom windows. They love it because they think it's fun, but in reality, it's just good practice in the event of a real disaster.
We also talk about closing doors to slow the spread of fire and increase protection for yourself. We have phones in every room of our house and we all have cell phones, so if we were ever trapped by fire, we could still call 911.
We know where our fire extinguishers are and how to use them.

If for any emergency situation you are being evacuated in a hurry and allowed only one small bag.........to carry, what are the three most important things you would like to put into that bag before evacuation?

Many homes and businesses are being totally destroyed from the reports I am seeing, complete neighborhoods. People are going to be in great need for a long time to come. Its horrific. I heard of one death so far, and many people injured. They don't have the man power to fight all...
