Do you have a regular family doctor that you can ask? They can usually give recommendations for professionals in your area, and they have the added bonus of knowing at least something about the person to whom they're referring you. Otherwise, check the phone book for a local mental health network that can refer you to a doctor that will fit your needs, or even check with the Department of Family Services as they are generally well-acquainted with the mental health professionals in a given area.
