Can cold cuts cause cancer?
Red meat is being raked over the coals again.
It's more the processed meats - coldcuts, hot dogs, etc. They have been shown to raise the risk of pancreatic cancer in men, along with other alarming health problems. The processed meats are made with pork, beef, turkey, etc - so it isn't just red meat that makes the processed food bad for you.
Lean cuts of farm raised red meat are just fine for your health. Just be sure to buy from a family farm or an organic supplier to avoid the hormones and antibiotics that come with factory-farmed beef.
MarieOaks has very good points.
I think it's the nitrates that are one of the major problems. I have found nitrate-free bacon to enjoy as an occasional treat.
