How do you help a blogmate who is depressed?
A blogmate that I've known now for three or four years had his wife leave him last year and he's been mostly depressed ever since. I've never met him, however, I would like to do something to help him only I don't know what.
I try to understand the cause/s of his or her depression, and suggest the best ways I can, of alleviating his or her spirits.
CONFLICT ... is the primary cause of all depressions, it emanates from "not understanding" the Problem, which leads to confusion and that leads to despondency ... hence, Depression.
Physiological origin-ed Depression can also be due to some Pathological Condition ... for which it is important to get medical help.
There's only so much you can do...
I'd probably tell them that they have a friend in me if they ever need to vent. I'd "listen" to them intently...And I'd reassure them that life is not over and that they'll be just fine...
Offer links to resources if they need it...
As the others have said hun.. Just do your best to be there for him. Make sure he knows if he needs someone to talk to he can always turn to you.. some people when they are depressed tend to hide as its easier that way but just make sure you try stay in contact as much as possible. Hope he gets through it. x
The best way to help a blog mate who is depressed simply is to listen to what he/she has to say, offer unconditional positive regard, and if possible, offer non therapeutic suggestions.

Does anyone think there is anyway to solve depression, without medication??I am definitely in a slump, and really need to get out of it. But I need help. Anti-depressants are always there, just wanted to explore a little before I made that decision.

When you struggle with depression, what do you say to those who insist its all in your head? I have been told that taking medications is a cop out and not a solution, but I know that, without them, I crash and burn! I feel like they just don't understand that sometimes, nothing I do can lift my...
