My personal favorites are the Altra Lone Peak running shoes. They are a trail shoe but they are very comfortable to run on the road with. I like the minimalist styles shoes as well and if I was going to buy a pair of road shoes I would probably go with the Merrell tough glove.
It does depend on your foot and if you pronate, have high arches, etc. I've tried all kinds of running shoes. Some of them feel great for a little while and then feel awful. The best ones for me have been Asics.
