How do you get in shape for Summer?
Some people join a gym, let spring cleaning give them a workout, start the gardening and home improvement projects, or use nature for biking, walking and running. It is interesting to get ideas from others, whether they get into a specific program or let the natural flow of life do the job.
I think its a good idea to start by cutting back on sugar, doing a minimum of 1/2 hour of walking per day, and gradually increasing intensity, and duration of the walks.
I've been going to the gym almost every day at 5 am, and I'm going to start using my juicer more- maybe doing a 10 or 15 day fast, just juice. I'm also going to try moving around more in general, I work out hard but I'm at my computer or at work for most of the day.
Start slowly. If you begin too vigorously you get too sore, then discouraged. Discouragement causes you to punt the whole idea.
Get a friend and start walking or swimming. Accountability is really helpful.
Remember the first day you exercise you will do well on the reserves you have. It will be the second day and the third that discourage you if you start too fast.
Great answers! I'm waiting for the pool to be ready and doing Spring cleaning while I wait.
It's about all I can do these days, but I get up to a good workout in the water.
Everybody has suggested something that I plan to do, especially walking every day. Cutting the sugar will be the toughest of all. I work on the computer most of the day too.

I want to get into shape but I lack the motivation. Any exercises I can do to get started and stay motivated with?

What helps get you motivated to work out or exercise?Sometimes after a long day of class or work I have no energy to workout. I have my own motivators, but I'm curious as to what gets everyone else ready for a workout when you'd be almost as happy to crash on the sofa and unwind for a few hours.

Don't run....get outside in your running gear then just start walking....think about what you are going to do in the Army and how you will feel in training...just keep walking....walk away the fear of running, which is basically linked to your fear of what lies ahead, and probably the fear of...

What do you do for exercise? As writers, we do a lot of sitting. But exercise is very important. Just wondering what my sedentary colleagues are doing about it.

What helps me get in better shape, P90X, Insanity, or going to the gym?I want to get in better shape, but I don't want to switch from one program to the next. Based on the majority of people's feedback I'll choose which workout to do!Thanks,Julie
