I think for a large segment of the population retirement communities are a great idea. It allows for socialization that would otherwise be more challenging due to transportation constraints.
For a smaller segment, I believe they really would benefit from and prefer to live in their own home for as long as they are able as they really do strive on independence and have a healthy attitude that allows for living on their own.
