What are some good ways to cope with hypersenstivity to light, touch, and sound?
If this was related to dogs I would recommend the Anxiety Wrap, the original pressure wrap designed to calm anxiety in dogs. It works by calming sensitive nerve endings through a process called maintained pressure as well as by acupressure. However, I'm not sure if you're asking about dogs or people. As a registered nurse I have worked with people who are hypersensitive to stimuli and what we usually do is minimize the intensity of the stimuli. For example, a person experiencing the pain of a migraine is treated with pain medication and a dark room because they are hypersensitive to light which increases their pain.
People. I've seen advice that says remove the stimuli. Others say not to. It will make it worse. Argh! Your answer makes sense. Minimize.
Treatments for dogs and people (meds and behavior) can be very similar (I used to work at a vet). Thanks!
It all depends on the underline condition. For example PTSD, migraines, Scotopic Sensitivity Disorder have very different root causes. But being aware of your degree of tolerance for stimuli is key, and then work around those boundaries.
