   sometimes insulin resistance may develop--including very low blood sugar dips (Hypoglycemia). I was like this for years, then type 2 developed a few years ago.  It runs in my family. I had been using sugar substitutes for over 20 years and still my diabetes popped up at exactly the same age as it did for my Father (he lived to be 94)

   The American Diabetes Association defines pre-diabetes as a fasting plasma glucose level from 5.6 mmol/L (100 mg/dL) to 6.9 mmol/L (125 mg/dL. What this means is that the range of the glucose levels is slightly higher than normal, but not exactly meeting a diabetic diagnosis. The causes of this are multi-factorial. It could be genetic, or it could be metabolic syndrome. What matters for the pre-diabetic or any diabetic is taking steps to minimize progression to diabetes and preventing any long term complications.

   "Pre-diabetes" is a term used to describe abnormally high blood glucose (sugar) levels that do not meet the ADA (American Diabetes Association) definition of "diabetes."
