I would have to say both have their benefits and it depends on the needs of the exerciser
Jogging burns more calories at the same relative intensity so those with limited time available for weight lOSS may be better served by jogging
Cycling is likely to be better if you have joint problems such as osteoarthritis
In terms of which is better- so much is down to the individual exerciser and their needs. Both are fantastic ways to get fit and enjoy a healthy lifestyle
Jogging and cycling both are types of aerobic exercise. Jogging is a high impact exercise which means that it produces stress on the knee and hip joints while jogging, whereas cycling is a no-impact exercise. So cycling is safer in elderly persons or in persons having degenerative changes in the related joints.
A person can build up good intensity of exercise with both jogging and cycling. Both types need good and proper track to jog or cycle. A jogger can have an advantage to jog on a hilly or difficult terrain to get better fitness which is not there with a cyclist.
There is no big difference in calorie consumption in both the exercises. Jogging will consume about 390 calories and cycling about 350 calories in 30 minutes at a nine-minute mile pace.
A few recent studies have indicated that jogging can regenerate the damaged cartilage in knee and hip joints. But each individual case having degenerative changes in related joints should be reviewed separately for this benefit.
