How fast does your body break down muscle cells for energy when it needs to do so?
It's a fact that when your calorie intake is really low, your body will begin to break down your fat and muscle tissue for an emergency supply of energy. However, I don't know how fast it does this or even to what extent. Knowing this is vital to planning the length and difficulty of your training session, so I would really like to find out.
If your body runs out of other sources of fuel, it will start to use muscle tissue for energy. This is not a normal condition, and your body will only start to use muscle tissue for energy under extreme conditions, such as if you are very sick, severely malnourished or not consuming enough calories over an extended period of time to support normal body functions.
