What is your strategy to avoid weight gain in the midst of holiday temptations?

Food and sweets bombard us at work , at home, and at parties. What do YOU do to maintain a healthy weight and to avoid sabotaging your diet?

I simply keep in mind, "all things in moderation."  It's okay to sample the goods, just not pig out.
If I'm quite sure there will be an overabundance of tempting goodies, I make sure not to arrive hungry.  Eat a meal first, or drink a lot of water or soda, if it's a meal you're going to...

Great tip to fill up before a big dinner party or buffet! Thanks, MsLizzy and a Happy New Year to you. smile

It is possible to splurge on some goodies and be able to maintain your weight. I limit myself to goodies that I really like instead of every treat I see. In addition, having cheat days can be a great way to trick your body into losing weight when you've stalled. Then, the next day I do an intense workout.

I agree that it's really important to be selective rather than give in to all. I've heard of tricking your body into burning calories by varying the diet routine but have never noticed a difference. Thanks for your answer. smile

I make sure I stay well hydrated at all times, especially during the holiday season, sometimes our bodies "think" they are hungry when really they are thirsty. I also try to stay away from sweets, or at least limit them as much as possible.

A very good point! A lack of hydration can also cause fatigue. I appreciate your answer. smile
