What is the best way to check your blood pressure at home? Are old style sphygmomanometer's worth using to accurately measure blood pressure or are the automatic models do a better job?

I think old style is more accurate.

The automatic blood pressure monitors work fine.  Are you trained to use a stethoscope?  Probably not.

I have one I picked up at Costco for about $60 and it works fine.  It was actually recommended by a Doctor.  I wish I could tell you the brand, but it's in the other room and I'd have to dig it out.

I use a automatic monitor by ReliOn and it works well, I had another brand and it was difficult to use. This one the individual can also can the cuff according to the size of the arm. It has memory feature also that helps when reporting to dr.
