Make Fitness Fun

Fitness and fun can go hand in hand with the right frame of mind. We tend to think of exercise as boring. Obesity is a growing concern, especially in the United States and the European countries. It is so easy to get into a rut. Become couch potatoes, play videos games or spend the majority of our waking life on the computer.

I know because I am an internet addict. But with the right set of goals and attitude we can change the way we feel and think.

Start off with positive thinking of getting fit. This is what I have started to do since I first wrote. My Quest to Become a Loser (Weight Loss)

Take a walk to clear your mind. A walk to a beautiful lake is a good start.

Young and Fit

As a teenager exercise was part of my everyday life. At the time I lived in Bremerton, Washington. There you would find many windy roads and hills.

When I wasn't in school, you could find me riding my old 3 speed (gears not working, breaks locking up, chain falling off) bike. I lived near Kitsap Lake. The road around the lake was a little more than 4.5 miles around. Most of the time I would ride around it twice.

One part of the road had a very steep hill. Half of the time my bike wouldn't make it all the way up. So I would have to get off and walk the bike to the top of the hill. Once at the top, I would jump on my bike and zoom down the hill. Sometimes losing control and hoping not to run into anything or falling off. What can I say...I was a klutz!

Often I would walk home from school versus take the bus. This was nearly a 5 mile walk, up and down the hills of Bremerton.

Rarely would I stay still. And every charitable walkathon (like the March of Dimes) you would find me there.

This activity level continued on into my twenties. It is easier to be thin when you are active, young and your body naturally burns calories faster. But even then, I worked hard to stay thin.

As we age it becomes increasingly harder to stay fit. Fitness and diet industry is a multimillion dollar business. Below fund fitness ideas are fitness products.

  1. Add a friend as a fitness partner.
  2. Join a fitness group.
  3. Become involved in a sport or an activity.
  4. Mix up your exercise routine.
  5. Dance to music.
  6. Buy Wii fitness and use it.

Since I am an owner of a Wii system, I can honestly tell everyone how much fun this is. All the sports video games give a good workout. I don't have a Wii Fitness, but it is on my wish list.

An exercise ball works multiple muscles at one time while forcing your body to balance itself. This creates a very effective and challenging workout. For example, lying on a bench to perform tricep extensions is a good exercise but it’s limited to working primarily just the triceps. However, perform that same move on a stability ball and you have created an unstable environment. Additional muscles are activated that work to keep you balanced on the ball. That means you are now working harder and essentially getting more bang for your buck while not increasing your exercise time.

      Well I wouldn't say that I have six pack abs, but I do try to walk and lift weights 3 or 4 times a week. I ALWAYS feel so much better when I workout a bit....it is a great way to relieve stress!

        I'm in good shape with a regular exercise routine. Nonetheless, I'm planning to take it to a new level and get back to my distance running practice whenever the ice melts.

        I'm currently in the weight loss process myself, but it's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change. I'm definitely not in the six pack category though.

        I get most of my exercise on my exercise bike with a laptop stand built into it (my hubby curb shopped the bike and built the stand on top). My goal is always to hit at least 250 calories per day.

        I also eat a lot less than I used to and I'm not hungry. I haven't changed a lot of what I eat, it's just less. For example, instead of eating 3 eggs and 4 pieces of toast, I now eat 2 eggs and 2 pieces of toast. I still splurge once in a while as well, I just need to make sure I keep the time between splurges at a maximum.

        All of these things have allowed me to lose 33 pounds so far. Keep at it everyone if you are trying to lose weight, just change one thing and the results will amaze you.

          I have a gravity inversion table that alas is at my sister's house a few states away. I would like a Wii but have only a fit ball and a kettle ball as well.

          PS I love the module with the faded photo in the background. I would love to know how to do that!

          Exercising is funnier when we're several people to do it. Unfortunately, while being 43, lots of my friends still have small children; which prevents us from having the opportunity to go out - Belgium doesn't have a lot of activities for kids after school, so, we're unable to gather together and have fun - whether exercising or having a drink outside :-(

          Anyway, your lens is a great one and deserves 5 stars :)
