Tribute to My Parents
To My Mum and Dad
They were both meant for each other - that was an obvious fact
From the way he looked at her, you could tell it wasn't just an act
They did not wait too long to sign their marriage pact
And guess what? It wasn't long before my arrival was marked.
"Obim", she called him ever so gently
"Nkem", he echoed ever so sweetly
Theirs was a love expressed so freely
And long it stood, even though it cost them dearly!
Along came my sibling after my extraordinary arrival
Us, they doted on, family was a carnival
We shared all together on our table royal
and to the Creator, they taught us to remain loyal
T'wasn't long before death came a-calling
Depriving mum from the fruit of her toiling
November 16th it was - one sweet smelling evening
And mum said "bye" in a manner so appalling.
Confused was I at the loss of one so dear
Cold were the hands that clutched my heart in fear
Dashed were the dreams that earlier seemed so near
Until mum chose to hop on to this heaven-bound car
Eleven years rushed by like a breeze in winter
The tears learnt to freeze each time I thought of my Mother
Then HE decided they should be together
Why, O why did it have to be in November?
Today, fondly I recall the cherished memories
As I look back at my history - their legacies
Forever they live in my heart in this world of uncertainties
As I prepare to discard November's "allergies".
Dad, you were great in your own way - a noble Father
You raised us up as a tribute to a loving Mother
My wife and I are beginning to believe in this matter:
That true love between such good friends goes on forever!
