The Black Hole in Our Mind Created by The Media

Are you a media sponge that absorbs negativity?

News Channels Source of Negative Energy

You Can Run But You Can't Hide

There’s almost no avoiding it (unless you live on a deserted island without any WiFi connection); the constant – we are constantly confronted with local, national and international news accompanied by the many commercials to keep these news channels profitable.

Now, unless you’re watching the “Good News Network” only, we’re pumped up with the news on a regular basis, making the world seem like a dangerous depressing place and horrific topics and footage is repeatedly shown gluing these negative images on our lens and our brain. During the commercial breaks we’ll then be told it’s extremely important to get the best and most comprehensive health-insurance, as we can never know what’s the next bad thing that may happen to us. All this is followed by a bright and happy commercial on why we should buy that new car with 6 gears, drink and eat specific products as they improve our health and well-being.

Once the commercials have ended, we return to hear why a random politician of a random country should or should not have started a war, where another politician will Tweet his opinion uttering all kind of threats or compliments (usually those threats and “kind” words are well-considered texts by advisors to defend the interest of the politician. After all, top priority is the ensuring of both his and the advisor’s seat in the government. In no way it has genuine and sincere empathy for the essence of the topic).

We've become ants

Yet again, the ants (aka human beings) continue to run around like mad-men, either at work, at home parenting, caring and worrying for their families. Or as soldiers, deployed in some far away country, struggling and fighting, utterly convinced the media has given them all there is to know why this specific group needs to be eliminated.

But is this true? Isn’t the media nowadays largely an extension of a small group of politicians watching over their own interests, not addressing more firmly the problems we as humans should really address?

And if we know that this is true in most of the cases, why do continue to accept this and cooperate with this madness? Most people are smart to enough to know all the above makes perfect sense and that they themselves are an enabling contributor to this mind polluting madhouse. Isn’t the world run by its “leaders” on fear?

I understand that as individuals we cannot change the big picture, but can we make a start micro, let’s say in our own house-hold by banning negative news coverage by simply watching and listening to it less. If the hype of thinking positive is at such a high, is this merely to balance out the negative or, if we start focusing on that at a larger scale will we see a change?

See Positive, Talk Positive, Be Positive

Dr Masaru Emoto has done research to the influence of negative and positive language to water and the results are stunning. As our bodies are made 60% of water – it seems to me we need to create space for positive news in our lives. Positive constructive coverage instead of pumping us up with a dark image of the world which is such a beautiful place. And if you are now reading this you are probable one of the 5% of extremely lucky world citizens that live as an elite. The elite that has a monthly income, a car, food on the table where the other 95% lives in poverty. Only that fact already should make you smile from ear to ear and say thank you for your existence.

WikiPedia explains the term black hole as follows (quote) “A black hole is a region of spacetime exhibiting such strong gravitational effects that nothing—including particles and electromagnetic radiation such as light—can escape from inside it. The theory of general relativity predicts that a sufficiently compact mass can deform spacetime to form a black hole. The boundary of the region from which no escape is possible is called the event horizon.”

It seems to me that being constantly confronted with negativity via the media causes the same effect that even light can’t escape from it. So let’s make sure our light is not sucked into the daily media hole and make room for gratitude emphasizing the good we have in life!
