Best Mother's Day Gifts that Don't Involve Spending Money
For you, Mother
What's the Best Gift you Can Get your Mother for Mother's Day 2013?
Last year I got my mum some flowers and chocolates, come to think of it, I probably got her something similar the year before that and the year ... you know what I mean! There may have been a cup of tea thrown in for good measure but not much else.
But really, should we really be so concerned with material things? Isn't Mother's Day more of an experiential time?
I asked myself these questions just yesterday when I began to consider what would assist me in ensuring my mother had a wonderful day, one in which she felt appreciated and noticed. What I realized was that each year I buy these same or similar gifts but very rarely actually give my mother much in the way of experiential appreciation.
Therefore, this year I'm going to 'do something' for my mother instead of get her a gift.
I'm going to 'show' her how much I appreciate her for going through the agony and suffering she no doubt did, while having me and subsequently bringing me up.
So I have compiled a list of the best gifts which don't involve spending money for Mother's Day.
I hope you like it.
It Hurts Doesn't it?!
1. Cook, Clean and Basically be your Mother for a Day!
Yes, your mother will be impressed that you are willing to go through what she went through for 20 years!!
Put your back into it!
No, it's not a joke, mum!
2. Breakfast in Bed
I don't know about you but this is a better Mother's Day gift than a box of chocolates or even the biggest bunch of flowers in my opinion because think about it - how often does your mother EVER have breakfast in bed?
How often is she waited on hand and foot? You see?!
One of the Best Mother's Day Gifts
3. Listen to Her
Possibly the best Mother's Day gift you could get your mother, in my opinion. Why? Well, in my experience and from observation, once children are old enough to make their own decisions and they start to make their own way in life - they stop listening to mom!
When was the last time you sat down and just listened to your mom talk. Granted, there ARE some who listen to mom but I'm pretty sure the Non-mom-listeners far outweigh them. We are just too darn busy - even for our own mother!!
One of the best Mother's Day gifts 2013.
Real Appreciation
4. Make a Card with your Own Two Hands
Yes, put in 30 minutes of effort for a mum who has put in a whole life's worth of effort to bring you up. Sounds pretty worth it to me and definitely beats a card shop card any day!
A great Mother's Day gift!
Well, at least a great accompaniment to a Mother's Day gift.
For you Mum
5. Dedicate Something to Her
A wonderful Mother's Day gift and one that will make her feel so special and important.
Dedicate something to your mother whether it be a song on the radio, a poem, a blog post a huge heartfelt post on Facebook even!!
Make your mother feel extra special by making an extra special effort for her. She will know you are thinking of her and knowing that will make this one of the best Mother's Day gifts of all, far better than flowers and chocolates.
Cookbook at the Ready!
6. Cook her Favorite Meal no Matter how Hard it Is!
Even if you end up burning the meal and destroying the kitchen in the process, your mother will no doubt be impressed that her child attempted to cook for her, after all those years of cooking for you.
Give her a nice home cooked meal for Mother's Day.
Gather the Clan
7. Throw a Surprise Party
Call the clan and gather for a surprise dinner party for your mother. How often do you get together these days? Not often, I'll wager.
She'll love to see the family together and be treated like a queen for a day.
A Collection of Special Memories
8. Make a Scrapbook of all the Special Moments you Have Shared Together
A Mother's Day gift that will bring tears to her eyes. A scrapbook of all the treasured times you have spent together over the years and lovingly prepared by you.
One of the most special Mother's Day gifts you could possibly give.
You're the Best Mum!
9. Thank her for Being the Best Mother on Earth
Simply thank her for being such a wonderful mother, or at least for putting up with you for so many years while bringing you up. It isn't easy bringing up children, especially for mum.
Show your mother you 'know' and you are grateful on Mother's Day.
Love you Mom!
10. Give her a Hug and a Kiss on the Cheek!
Is this one of the best Mother's Day gifts a mother could ever receive?
YES.
Requiring only two arms, a pair of lips and love - a hug and kiss for your beloved mother.
