Halloween candy corn ice cream

Ingredients:

  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Food coloring
  • Whipped cream
  • Candy corn or Halloween sprinkles

Instructions:

See step-by-step picture recipe for Halloween candy corn ice cream below.

  • Let the ice cream soften for about 20 minutes.
  • Divide ice cream into thirds into 3 separate mixing bowls. The exact amount of ice cream depends upon the size of the clear cups or glasses that you will be using and the number of servings needed. In general, you will need a minimum of 1 1/2 cups of ice cream per person.
  • Add yellow food coloring to one bowl and stir until the desired shade of yellow is achieved.
  • Add orange food coloring to the second bowl. Alternatively, use a combination of yellow and red to make orange. Use 2 drops of yellow for every 3 drops of red until the desired shade of orange is achieved.
  • Add a layer of yellow-colored vanilla ice cream to the bottom of a clear plastic cup or glass.
  • Next, add a layer of the orange-colored vanilla ice cream on top of the yellow layer.
  • Finally, add a layer of non-colored vanilla ice cream on top of the orange layer.
  • The cups can now be placed in the freezer until ready to be served.
  • Before serving, top with whipped cream and garnish with any type of Halloween candy or sprinkles.
  • Enjoy!

This looks like so much fun to do with kids. Your step-by-step photos are great and add a lot to the hub. I love the candy corn ice cream cups - that would be fun to serve adults, too! Shared on Pinterest and FB!

Steph - A Halloween birthday actually sounds like a lot of fun. I know the kids with Christmas birthdays aren't necessarily always that happy to have their birthday on that holiday, but a Halloween birthday could be pretty memorable. Thanks for stopping by.

Thank you all for your comments. These really are both simple desserts.

Steph - I am not so sure you will get rid of all your candy corn on this dessert since it really is just a garnish, but maybe you will start eating endless handfuls after opening the bag :) I think candy corn is a "love it, or hate it" type of candy.

Homesteadbound - Thanks for stopping by. It is hard to keep up with following and followers. Now, I will have to see what's going on over at Cloverleaf's brand hub and see why my ears should be burning.

You've got a great hub here ktrapp. I have finally tracked you down. I did not realize that I was not following you. But now I am, and I'm hot on your trail.

That candy corn ice cream looks so yummy. A pure sugar rush!

You'll have to go see cloverleaf's hub on building your brand. Your ears should be burning.

The monster pudding looks like the bomb. I am definitely going to make that. And last year for halloween I threw a party and got 3 bags of candy corn. No one ate any of it. Maybe with the candy corn ice cream, I can finally get rid of it all. Voted up and useful!

Thanks moonlake. My kids are a bit older now and when I was making these I was sorting missing the days when they would have been so excited by something like either of the two halloween desserts.

Thanks Cloverleaf. The candy corn ice cream is definitely and easy dessert that is nice for adults, as well as kids. In reality, it's just vanilla ice cream, tinted and decorated to look seasonal. I think for adults the candy corn ice cream would look nice served in a goblet or wine glass instead of a plastic cup.
