Good & Cool Christmas Gift Ideas for Kids Boys & Girls 2015

Updated on May 5, 2015

Christmas is right around the corner.

Do you know what you will be getting your children?

It seems like every year my eyes start to glaze over when I look at all the toys on the shelves at the stores.

My kids would appreciate almost any kind of toy but I like to get them something that they will play with for more than just a week, as well as something that is appropriate for their age and needs.

Best Action Figure Toys for Kids

Although the movie Toy Story has been taken over by newer movies, children of all ages still know who Woody is.

Not only is this Toy Story Pull String Woody 16" Action Figure a perfect replication of his cartoon character, he talks.

With a pull string in the back, you can listen to him say five different phrases from the movies. His hat is detachable which can be fun for your child to place on and take off.

However, I have found that this tends to get separated from his body more frequently than not.

To remedy this, I simply hot glued it on his head; voila! Problem solved. I like this design over the plush versions because his arms and legs are more stiff and easier to pose.

We bought this Fisher-Price Little People Disney Princess Songs Palace for our two year old last year for Christmas.

It comes with a movable bed, table and two chairs, as well as Snow White and Cinderella figurines.

I really like that the dance floor situated just behind the doors of the castle twists back and forth to make the characters “dance”.

Also on the dance floor is a place where you put the dolls and it actually recognizes which character it is and will say phrases and sing songs appropriate to that specific character.

The elevator on the side of the castle has helped teach my daughter the difference between up and down.

Great Gift Ideas for Creative Kids

If you have a child that likes to create their own artwork, consider getting them something more tactile than an app on their phone.

Many of you will remember this really fun Spirograph Deluxe Design Set. These were a blast when I was a kid and now this set offers a lot more options for art.

This is a 45 piece set that includes 19 wheels, two rings, spiro putty, three pens, a 14 page guidebook, and paper to design on all with its own storage case with handle.

The spiro putty keeps the pieces in place on your paper without having to puncture it. My kids love using this to doodle with, although I have had them use its two decorate thank you cards, birthday cards and notes that they like to give their friends.

Razor A Kick Scooter

Top Gifts for Kids on the Move

Scooters are a great way to get your child some exercise.

The most common brand of scooter is the Razor A Kick Scooter.

This one comes in seven different colors to choose from and has handlebars that are very easily adjusted for different heights.

It folds up for easier transporting or storage.

I like the brake on the rear fender to help with quick stops.

Weighing only 6 pounds, this can easily be carried by most children.

The only drawback I have found to these scooters is that the handlebars sometimes do not lock securely.

We have had to return a couple over the years and get new ones with stiffer parts.

Now, for younger children this Mini Micro Scooter with T-Bar Handle makes a great option because of the wider base and more sturdy design.

This comes in two colors to choose from, both blue and pink.

Although my daughter was a bit nervous trying to steer this device, she finally learned to lean from side to side to turn instead of using the handles so much.

This scooter only weighs 3.3 pounds so it is very easy for young children to carry and maneuver.

Toys that Boys & Girls can Build

Building toys were some of my favorites as a child, and I still love playing with building toys with my children.

The best kind of building toys in my opinion are Legos. This LEGO Minecraft set comes with 480 pieces and mimics the popular online game.

Although the Legos are meant to stick together, these are made so that you can destroy different types of blocks that are built in 3D.

You should be aware that this set is actually much smaller than you might anticipate. Girls may like this LEGO Friends 3184 Adventure Camper.

It includes two bikes, a surfboard, picnic table, barbecue grill; check in, cups, juice, the tote bag, and a kitchen accessory pack which includes plates, utensils, bowls, muffins, spatula, frying pan, and baking tin.

The camper has a roof that opens so it can be easier to play in. This really is both a building set and a dollhouse type set at the same time. I love that the camper cushions store all the other small items.

The Right Barbie for your Girl

Most little girls like fairies of any sort, but this FLutterbye Flying Fairy is more than just an action figure.

She runs on six AA batteries and after spreading her wings she can dance and fly above your hand.

Just make sure that the fairy is completely charged before you try to play with it.

This also actually gave my daughter and her friends some exercise since they would run around the room trying to catch the fairy on their hands.

Furby Boom Figure

Toys for Every Kid

Also making a comeback are Furby toys. This Furby Boom Figure is covered in pink and white polka dots.

Although this is a 3D toy that your child can hold in their hands, the Furby boom app gives your child the ability to lay eggs.

They can raise these baby Furby's and play together with the app. I think my daughter's favorite feature is that this Furby actually remembers the name that she gave it.

Plus, how your child plays with this toy will help it develop its individual personality My personal favorite in this category is the Portable Karaoke Machine.

My children love to sing and we have a lot of family fun using this device. I like that it has a programmable CD memory.

It features a handles so it can be easily carried from room to room. It also comes with two microphone inputs for duets.

Finding the Funnest Board Game for Kids

Both girls and boys will enjoy playing this HedBanz Game.

Have you ever played those ice breaker games at work events or parties where you have a character taped to your back so everyone else sees who you are, and you have to ask questions to figure out what character you are?

This game works the same way. Headbands are included as well as cards with items pictured on them.

These stick in the front of their heads so everyone else can see it but the player cannot. The first player to guess what item they are wins the game.
