Pros and Cons of Types of Feeding Dish Materials

Some dogs are dainty eaters. Some dogs literally move the bowl all over the room. If you ever place bacon grease on your dogs' food, anticipate that dog dish to move and move often. My dogs would spend up to 10 minutes and return an hour later to make sure they didn't miss a precious drop of that great bacon grease.

If your dog moves the dish quite frequently, the ceramic feeding bowl may not be the best choice. This doesn't rule out this choice for a gift, just not for an every day dish. The stainless steel with the rubberized bottoms are great for the bacon grease toppings. The ceramic look much better in the kitchen on a daily basis. My recommendation is to have one of both. Variety is the spice of life. Hint: never place the ceramic bowl outside - it will move and it runs the high probability of becoming chipped.

Personalize As Much As Possible

When considering that gift, consider the location of the use. As I mentioned the ceramic bowls are beautiful but may not be the best choice for dogs that actively move their dishes. A run or placement underneath helps tremendously.

For my best friend, her new kitchen has a dark slate tile. Her dog is a large black lab who is similar in nature to my retrievers, the feeding dish will walk - you can expect it. So a stainless steel dish with her dogs' name works perfectly.

For a more dainty feeder or a toy dog, the ceramic dish is ideal.
