Halloween Recipe: Bloody Cake
Entertaining With Food
This is a fun cake for Halloween and is simple to make. You can use either red coloured Jell-O for a bloody effect or green Jell-O for a slimy effect. It’s your choice, and either choice will send goose bumps over your guests' arms as they enjoy your Halloween party.
Ingredients:
2 round white cake layers (premade, from a mix or from scratch)
1 package (4 oz.) of Jell-O
For red blood: cherry, strawberry or other red.
For green slime: lime
Method:
Prepare and bake the white cake. Allow to cool thoroughly. Once cooled, poke the cake with a skewer, narrow handle of a wooden spoon or a fork. Poke to different depths with one or a combination of the utensils.
Dissolve the Jell-O in boiling water as directed; however, do not add the second portion of water. Pour the dissolved Jell‑O gently over the surface of the cake, focussing over the holes. Allow the holes to fill up with the mixture. Place the cakes into the refrigerator and allow the Jell‑O to set.
To remove from the mold or pan, run a thin knife around the edge. Dip the bottom of the pan into warm water which will loosen the bottom of the cake. Dry the bottom of the pan. Invert onto a decorated serving plate and frost with Halloween Frosting.
