Home Made Customized Christmas Stockings

While preparing all of the Holiday hubs I thought that perhaps you, my dear reader, would be interested in making a personalized stocking for friends, family and loved ones. They are relatively inexpensive to make and you can design a unique gift that will last that person a life time. This is especially true when a new baby is born into the community. And it is such a touching gift to receive.

My grandmother made all of our stockings and we have had them all our life time.

And you ca design them to be very fancy, contemporary or even old fashion. The choice is yours. Personally I prefer the reversible stockings. This is also a really good project to get our children involved with. While they probably can’t sow they can design, cut and use fabric glue.

I have actually done this before. My suggestion unless you are an experienced with a sowing machine is to take your time. I also rely heavily upon fabric paint and sometimes I use a very traditional fabric on the outside and then just a plain white fabric which I use as a canvas in the inside and I paint a picture on the fabric. I find this type of activity to be very calming.

On some of the videos they will suggest you use glitter. If I may, I would caution you against this. The glitter over time comes off and makes a huge mess.

If you do embroidery the can always put an embroidered picture on the stocking but I wouldn’t suggest you do that on a reversible stocking.

The main point is this is a great activity to get the whole family involved in and it makes a wonderful present for the holidays for friends, family and loved ones.

One final bit of advice before I show you the video’s how to make your own stockings. Please make certain you purchase material that is machine washable. And please make your stocking sturdy enough to last in a pillow case in a washing machine. I have seen many stocking get dirty and fall apart when washed. Christmas stockings make great holiday gifts and become quite sentimental and for this reason you would want them to be sturdy.

Be organized, thoughtful and creative and you will dazzle people with your home made customized holiday stockings.
