Finding the Right Present

I know it is really tough sometimes to find the right present that is creative, quick, easy and affordable. And I know that many people opt for the easiest and quickest solution without considering what the gift says to its recipient, but a well chosen and appropriate personalized Christmas gift makes both the giver and receiver happy. It's easy choosing gifts when you are familiar with the tastes and hobbies of a person. Take a minute to think about their personality; are they conservative or do they like to stand out in a crowd? What are their personal likes, favorite color, do they attend college, do they have a nickname, attend sporting events, golf, do they travel, do they love music or have a collection of any sort? If you do your homework, it should not be that difficult to find the right personalized Christmas gifts for your family and friends. Personalized gifts are usually etched, engraved, embossed, written, drawn or painted onto a purchased product, but there are many kits you can find online or at your local arts and craft shop, to do your own personalization. There are many Christmas gifts that can be personalized. They include clothing, jewelry, pen sets, leather goods, and just about anything else you can think of. A book personalized for a child makes a wonderful gift. Imagine your child opening a book to find it begins with his or her name and this will also enforce his love of books and learning.

The Giving Tree

Giving is a Blessing

Giving does not come natural to us. Our nature is to hoard, keep, protect and save what we have. There is something very comforting about having a tidy little nest egg set aside! We all want to know our future is protected. But there is a sense of joy and peace associated with a cheerful spirit of giving. Haven't we all heard the phrase "it is more blessed to give than to receive". or "give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you" (NIV - Luke 6:38). God's blessings are endless! "He will do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us" (NIV) - Ephesians 3:20) and that is the power to give. Giving is a way for us to fight the selfishness we all have. When we are a blessing to others, God is glorified and He rewards people for this.

No other holiday is as universally celebrated as Christmas. The exact date of Jesus' birth is unknown so, for three centuries it was celebrated on various dates. In the fourth century, the Bishop of Rome declared December 25th to be the official date. Centuries later Saint Nicholas became a popular symbol of generosity and gift giving in many European countries. Saint Nicholas was the patron saint of the Netherlands and it was through the Dutch settlers in America that people in the United States heard of him. His name was eventually changed to "Santa Claus".

More significant than the legend of St. Nicholas is the story of the Three Wise Men who gave gifts to Baby Jesus. The stories of St. Nicholas and the Three Wise Men form the bases for gift giving at Christmas. So as you choose your personalized Christmas gifts for your friends and family, be assured that any gift that is sincerely given with love will be the perfect gift.

The Gift Giving Culture of Japan

Gift giving has often been associated in Western culture with the celebration of events or holidays. While giving social gifts has gained popularity in recent years it does not compare to the gift giving culture of Japan.

Japanese people are well known for their graciousness and this extends to the common act of gift giving. In Japan the presentation of a gift is as of much importance as the gift itself. Showing respect to the receiver, even small tokens are often wrapped with great care and attention. Accepting gifts is an act of extreme appreciation on the part of the receiver and humility from the giver, presented and accepted in both hands.

While gift giving is common to most cultures, the act of giving gifts can be quite different from one place to another. Many business people are advised on the appropriateness of giving gifts when doing business in foreign countries since the act of giving gifts is often closely tied to the traditions and cultures of different people worldwide.

So this holiday season why not add that extra special touch with personalized Christmas gifts and BE a blessing to someone special in your life this year! And remember, it is the giving that is the major reason of happiness. Carry the Spirit of Christmas all year long and enjoy the happiness of giving.
