Nutcrackers Make A Great Xmas Tradition

Nutcrackers - A Great Xmas Tradition

Nutcrackers make for a great xmas tradition around our home. It was only a few years ago

when we didn't have any nutcrackers at Christmas time. Our home was warm and inviting but

there was something missing unbeknown to us at the time. As it happened my dear Aunt in

Hamilton gave me a few small nutcracker ornaments which we hung on our christmas tree

that year. They immediately had an impact on our family. Almost as if they had a life of

there own they added warmth and ambience we could not have imagined.

And so the quest began, we had to find another nutcracker. They all seem to have there

own special quality, and even personality. At first we found one and then another.

Where ever we went, we were (and still are) always on the lookout for the next nutcracker

to join the family. Sometimes you will find a nutcracker in the oddest places. The best buy we

ever made was just a year ago in a clearance bin in a drug store. The oddity was it was late

November not the New Year. There we found a five foot nutcracker who we named Chuck and

he only cost us $19.00, which is a steal for a nutcracker this size. It's been a number of years

now and our family of nutcrackers has

grown. Some are big and some are small, but as my wife said size doesn't

Initially we had them take part in the usual nutcracker duties, you know like guarding

the door way, guarding the stairway, guarding the xmas tree and the list goes on. And we

noticed they would never complain of the endless hours and solemn duties they were called

into, but we knew they must have dreamt of something more, maybe like being more part of

the family and festivities.

Well we started letting them sit at the table for snacks and before you know it, they

were helping us decorate, cook, play with the cats and even just kick back and enjoy

listening to the Christmas music and enjoy the warmth of the fireplace (but not too

Thanks for commenting Joe, glad to hear this hub may have given your nutcracker another shot, they really do want to contribute...Mine in fact do not crack nuts, they resent being held in that light. Their ancestors did stuff like that just like our ancestors slapped rocks together to make fire if you know what I mean.

You got me to look at my nutcracker in a whole new light. Last year my mom decided to give me a nutcracker that has about 20 or so years on myself. I always thought him to be a creepy little fellow, always staring at me with red coat uniform and a mouth that always hangs half open. Almost got rid of him at one point, but now he's got a job watching out over the fish in the aquarium.

Put him to work, and now he's not all that bad. My nutcracker thanks you for the hub that gave him a second chance. By the way, have you ever cracked a nut in a nutcracker? Mine can grab my finger pretty dang hard, but I just don't know if he could handle an actual nut.

Thanks for commenting Anglnwu and the vote! I don't have a penguin, yet...Lol My late Aunt got us started o our collection, but I remember the nutcrackers also from when my daughter was younger and we watched a children's version of the Nutcracker ballet. They really add so much to the Christmas season.

I can see you're nutcracker crazy but that's a good thing. You've a great collection. I'm partial towards nutcracker as my daughter dances in the Nutcracker ballet. U have a penguin nutcracker? I do--and like you I buy them whenever I see one that catches my fancy. Enjoyed the hub and rated up.

Hahaha, Maggy is the only one of our three cats that would tolerate being out done by a Nut Cracker, especially a Nut Cracker that is a mouse. Really appreciate your wonderful comments and Vote, thanks again!

Carcro: What a delightful, endearing, festive look at you and your family's charming Nutcracker collection! The write-up is riveting, and the photographs hilariously illustrative.

Thank you for sharing, voted up, etc.,

P.S. How did you ever get the cat to cooperate with the Nutcrackers against her?
