Unique Halloween Party Ideas

Updated on July 8, 2012

Tired of throwing the same generic costume Halloween party year after year? Want to wow your guests with something new this year? I've put together a great list of some totally unique Halloween party ideas to make Halloween 2011 your best party ever.

Halloween Party Ideas

  • The Nightmare Before Christmas - Do something great for your community with this aptly named party. Have your guests bring non-perishable food items for donation to your local food pantry and let them exchange each item for a delicious treat.
  • Harry Potter Party - Have your guests dress as their favorite Harry Potter character or just in the colors of their favorite house. Sort your guests into the different houses and have a scavenger hunt to determine who wins the House Cup. Make your scavenger list magic themed. Wands (sticks of wood of the right size and shape), brooms, potion components (plant leaves or flowers), all make great things to hunt for.
  • Silver Screen Oscar Party - Throw a party asking your guests to dress as their favorite classic Hollywood actor or actress. Marvel at the Gretta Garbos, Marilyn Monroes, and Clark Gables walk down the red carpet that you've laid out for them to enter on. Have a costume contest and give the winner a novelty Academy Award statue.
  • Super Hero Party - Test your friends creativity when you ask them to come not as their favorite super hero, but as one they have created themselves. Ask them to come up with an original costume, their own power, and a background telling about where they are from, how they got their power, and of their amazing escapades foiling the dastardly deeds of their arch enemies.
  • The Costume In The Closet Party - Have your guests create their costumes only out of items that they already have at home. No store bought costumes. Have contests for the most creative, most outrageous, and most unexpected. Print up some ballots and let your guests vote on each other.

Halloween is a fabulously fun holiday for children of all ages and I hope these ideas inspire you to make this year's party the one to remember. Have a great idea for a Halloween party? I'd love to hear about it!

Halloween is definitely my favorite holiday too. I guess we never get too old to play dress up.

Great ideas! I love Halloween and it is nice to see other people still like it to. It seems that by me not as many people get into Halloween as much as they used to. It is my favorite holiday!
