Christmas Table Decoration | Holiday Centerpiece

Christmas Table Decoration with a Cake Pedestal

Coming up with new centerpiece idea or a Christmas table decoration of some kind for the holiday season can be a challenge. Answer? Open the kitchen cabinets, hutch or sideboard and haul out your cake pedestals (cake stands or cake plates).

Whether they are glass cake plates, wire or colored china or stoneware, you can use them to make a centerpiece. It's simple and as unique as your holiday decor.

A cake pedestal is perfect for your dining table. There are already so many necessary items on your table, -- salt and pepper, condiments, glassware, coffee cups, ect... -- and all of this is at table level. A cake pedestal will elevate your centerpiece thereby freeing some valuable real estate on the dinner table.

This is How to make a centerpiece 101.

Let's get started!

Start with a Cake Stand

Clear Glass Cake Stands Set

This is the set I have. Because they are clear, they can be used year 'round for your entertaining and centerpiece needs. I love that you can stack them, use them separately or only use the size you need. You can stack them in the center or toward the back of each layer giving a different look.

A very versatile set indeed! I love it and am sure you could find a lot of different ways to use this set too!

Square White Cake Stand

White is a no-brainer and can be used for any occasion. It's perfect for a base to your Christmas centerpiece. Other Christmas colors will pop with the white color as the base and the square shape is unexpected, different.

Christmas Themed Cake Stand

This 10 1/4" diameter cake stand has a gorgeous poinsettia design that drips over the side. This one would work for your Christmas centerpiece or dessert!

Raid the kitchen cabinets and get the Christmas decorations out of the garage or attic. If you don't have what you want, go shopping and get the colors and styles you want to introduce this holiday season. Either way, we're going to make some DIY Christmas decor.

In this example, I used

* a 12" glass cake stand

* assorted ornaments

* garland

* 3 beaded Christmas trees

* some candles

* a small glass bowl.

The beauty of this project is that you can use anything you like, own or purchase.

Some Unique Christmas Trees to Use for Your - Christmas Centerpiece

As you can see from the photos, I love these kinds of Christmas trees. They sparkle, glitter and are perfect as the centerpiece of the centerpiece!

I decided to use the 3 trees at the back of the cake stand for height. After I placed them, I added the small glass bowl, turned upside down and tucked some small ornaments under it. Then I added the candle on top.

I like the height variation in the back and the lower candle in front. Now to add the baubles...

Ornaments -- Great for Centerpieces

Ornaments are great for making Christmas centerpieces. This set has 23 ball ornaments in a mixture of matte, shiny and iridescent finishes. The sizes range from 1.5" to 3". The size and finish differences make your centerpiece visually pleasing!

Vintage Assorted Glass Ornaments

For a vintage style Christmas centerpiece, use vintage ornaments in various shapes and colors. Add a candle or a small vintage aluminum Christmas tree or a snowman with a vintage style.

Color Scheme your Centerpiece Ornaments

These are red and white and have different designs on each ornament. Polka dot, swirl, snowflakes, snow capped -- these would make a gorgeous centerpiece.

At this point, I added the garland and some assorted ornaments sitting on top. Very simple but a great effect -- especially if you use garland that is sparkled, crystallized or has some sort of bing to it. The candle light will play off it to make some great lighting effects on your table, mantel or shelf.

If you have a theme -- like candy -- that you like to use at the holidays, change up the baubles and garland to reflect that. Maybe you have santa or a snowman figurine you would rather use than Christmas trees. Do it! Make sure the items are complementary and you can use anything. Below are some pictures of different ways to use your cake stand for centerpieces. Use them to get your creative juices flowing!

What can I use instead of a tree? - Snowman!

A snowman water tower is a perfect idea for the centerpiece of your centerpiece! This one stands 12" tall so it will make and impact, for sure. I think this one is going on the Christmas list this year. My mom is bonkers over snowmen and this is a unique figurine.

Try something new. If you normally use Christmas red and green in your decor, change the hue of the red and green this year. You may really like it!

Or, throw it all out and start over with a new color scheme for the holidays. Deep reds, browns, coppers, ivories and old golds are all colors gaining popularity for Christmas decor.
