I can't think of any holiday season I enjoy more than Christmas. The songs ... the food ... the family ... everything seems to truly come alive during this most celebrated holiday season! Is there a particular part that you enjoy doing the most? Is it the decorating ... the cooking ... the shopping ... what?
My personal favorite is a tie between decorating and shopping for my family and friends!
Not to point out the downside of Christmas, but the commercialization of a religious holiday to the extend that we have seen is very disheartening to me. Black Friday, Cyber Monday, must have gifts, etc. Not to mention Christmas sections in stores set up before Halloween now and Christmas trees available for sale well before Thanksgiving. I've pretty much turned my back on the holiday because it is so far removed from its roots (no matter whether you see it as a Christian celebration or the result of a blending of beliefs).
But, I do like the fact that many gravitate toward being kinder and more considerate of strangers. Those away from the malls and not jockeying for position on busy commercial corridors, that is. I like to hear a well performed Christmas cantata. And, I am usually uplifted after I finish the day I've set aside to shop for friends and family. It is always fun to give presents.
I find that when I don't allow all that commercialism to dictate how I celebrate the holidays; I can renew the joys of my earlier years. I agree that commerce has taken quite a hold on the holidays ... but how we choose to let it affect us is still a personal matter. I never put up my tree before the Friday after Thanksgiving and December still finds me filled with anticipation!
The closer it gets to Christmas the more excited I get! I was finally able to put up my tree and wrap all the presents that I bought in November! I am also looking at two of the Waltons' Christmas stories: "The Homecoming Movie" and from the series "The Best Christmas."
I was comparing the two different people who played Olivia Walton and the two people who played John Walton. Although they both had their own unique way of playing the part; I enjoy Miss Michael Learned and Ralph Waite the best. Will Greer was also very good as Grandpa Walton!
I just love Christmas!

My family and I absolutely adore Christmas, so we always start putting up our Christmas decor on the first week of November. Everytime I tell someone when we decorate they think we are CRAZY! I'm sure there is someone else who does it too!

What's your take on Starbucks' new cups for the holiday season? They're bright red, feature the Starbucks' logo in green and white, and have inflamed some critics in the US and Britain, who are equating the cups with a political correctness that's tantamount to a "war on Christmas."
