I'll give you the "New School" and "Old School Way to carve a pumpkin.
New School - Go to Target and buy a pumpkin carving set that comes with stencils you place on the pumpkin to guide you as you carve, and all the carving knives needed to complete the job.
Old School - Grab the sharpest steak-knife from the kitchen and start hacking away!
Get the pumpkin or pumpkins of your choice, and then follow these suggestions,

In our household, we adopted the pumpkin painting because we have little ones that have no business being around a knife. So I got the idea to let them paint their pumpkins, and mommy and daddy would carve. What would you choose? And yes, you can answer both if you like them both : )
