Although most want to buy the cute outfits, blankets, and so on, the best possible gift received for an expecting mom is diapers! Exp. if it's the first baby. The 1st baby gets triple of everything and chances are "the new mom" will be given so many new clothes; your outfit will be returned or never worn. There's no denying diapers!
I say take your budget for the gift and buy a case, but if you feel diapers are not enough and shopping for baby clothes is fun, purchase clothes for next year (12-18months).

I agree with FrankiesGirl6Yr. When I had my son I had so many clothes and blankets it was beyond reasonable. The best things I received were diapers, wipes (they come in boxes), diaper genie refills if they're using one, and penatin. Chances are they'll get shampoo and lotion and those will last them a long time. Toys are iffy right now as new born babies are more about just looking about and listening. Clothes for over one year are great too, just be sure to think of what season they'll be in at that time so you're not buying them shorts that they can't wear in the winter, when they fit them.

Well! How 'bout gifting a nice bouquet full of baby essentials. Stores like Red Envelope and Personalization Mall provide very nice gift options. You can find one as per your budget and requirement.

How about a spa day, massage, mani, pedi for mom on her first outing after baby.  How about a day at the hair salon for a new uplifting hairdo.  How about donating your time to help with the baby, so mom can get caught up; maybe a time coupon.  But, I agree with the others, you are going to go through a ton of diapers.....

A new born baby would not enjoy his/her own gifts. The baby needs only few things like a good bed to sleep, timely feed and warmth of mother's womb. But according to tradition some thing has to be given.

Having a baby, excited parents spend so much money creating the baby nursery, that they get out of control and often make a big hole on their pocket.

If it's first baby, they  have no idea about  the other regular expenses. So parents feel great when they get some thing like baby essentials for daily use.

When the baby needs a comfortable bed, then why not a nice cheap crib set  is the ideal baby shower gift?

Diapers or toiletry may be a good gift also.

The information are usually published at the magnet and therefore the close friends and family you invite might stick the particular magnet at their refrigerators.

    Hello!
If you want to get something cute, try shopping online. I created a list of places I shop. I would recommend Baby Mall Online, as they have some pretty gift sets to offer.
You can check it out here - http://rikkiray.hubpages.com/hub/Best-B … othes-2014

But, if you want your gift to be really useful - get diapers or wipes. I know that it is like sending your gift straight to the rubbish, but well - those things do come handy...
