    He loves practical items but has every tool imaginable - I've run out of ideas!

    Perhaps something you can personalize might be an idea. At the very least he will see that you have put some thought into it.

    Get him a metal detector. He'll love it and it will definitely be helpful to find all those lost things and will keep him usefully busy!!!

    If he's a movie fan specially a Harry Potter one with the new movie released you can think of something entertaining and amusing related to the movie, search HubPages for "Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Gifts" plenty available.
