What Is The Maundy Thursday Holiday, Feast Or Celebration?
I have just recently heard of Maundy Thursday, what countries have this holiday? What is Maundy Thursday about?
It is an English fesival, not a holiday, where the monarch of the day hands out Maunday Money (groats) to needy pensioners. It takes place on the Thursday before Easter, if my memory serves me well, and is a Christian celebration. The tradition is rather spoiled now, it is said that coin dealers await out of site of the ceremony to convert the groats into hard cash. I can't remember where the ceremony takes place, I'm sure a search on google will have much more comprehensive info than I can offer.
