Only once have I heard "taps" played at a military funeral.  Played for Ronald Slane, whose name I have traced on the Vietnam Memorial in Wash. D.C.

A conscientous objector, in his second tour in Vietnam as a unarmed medic he covered a grenade, saving his comrades.

I salute him and the 1000's of his fallen comrades.
