St George Slaying The Dragon

The most well known story is that of Saint George and the slaying of the dragon. One legend tells the tale of a wandering champion, George who later became the patron saint of England. George of Lydda comes across the king's daughter, Sabra who has been tied down on a stake to be sacrificed to the dragon. Saint George stayed by the lake as they waited for the dragon to appear.
Saint George charged at the dragon and wounded it with his lance. Then he called the princess to throw him her girdle which he then used to tie it round the dragon's neck. The dragon then proceeded to follow the princess like a meek beast on a leash.
She and Saint George led the dragon back to the city where he promised to slay the dragon if the people were to become Christians. The king and the people consented to be converted. On the site where Saint George slew the dragon, the king built a church to the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint George.
