5 Good Books for Teenagers and Young Adults

Updated on February 27, 2013

A few cool reading ideas

I want to present you a few books that I like to read, and that are great choice for both teenagers and adults. These are beautiful stories that explains some of the biggest values that anyone can have.

The books I want to talk about are: Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, The Black Book of Secrets by F. E. Higgins, and three books from one great master: Neil Gaiman.

This is a very interesting book about magic, love and of course battle between good and evil.

In one English village named Wall lives a guy called Tristran Thorn. His father keeps a big secret from him, and it's about his mother. He's goal is to conquer the hart of a very popular and beautiful woman, who is engaged to his adversary. He's willing to do everything to accomplish that, even if that everything means getting her a fallen star from the sky.

Trough this book you can meet a lot of interesting caracters, such as witches, sky pirates, princes who fight for their fathers throne, and for various reasons they are looking for the same fallen star.

There is also a movie based by this book.

The Black Book of Secrets

One young boy, with a terrible past is coming to a little village. This is the place where he meets Joe Zabbidou, man whose job is to collect secrets of other people. He pays people to tell him their secrets and then write it down in his black book.

After the person confess his or hers dark secret it seems that one by one, residents of the village become happier. They are coming to Joe to ease their soul, and this leads to unexpected and interesting end of the book.

The Graveyard Book

The boy named Nobody Owens is an orphan whose parents were murdered by the man Jack. After this tragical event, he crawled to the local graveyard and has been adopted by the ghosts. During his growing he is able to see ghosts and to communicate with them. They accepted him well, and gave their best to create him a good home suitable for a kid.

He doesn't know that there is a secret society known as the Jacks of All Trades. This society's goal is to find the boy and kill him, and if they don't accomplish this, he will eventually destroy them.

This is a very entertaining book suitable not just for kids but also for grownups who still want to feel young. Neil Gaiman proves one more time that his writing is extraordinary, and his imagination is giving us again and again something special.

Stargirl is a very touching love story between one regular and simple teenager named Leo and one very strange and eccentric girl full with love, named Susan. She is new at school and every other student feel that she doesn't' belong there, but she seem not to be affected by that. She keeps doing strange things which makes her happy, like dancing in the rain, strumming ukulele during lunch etc. She is also trying to do nice stuff for everyone, especially when its someones birthday, which is not well accepted by other students. Eventually Susan and Leo start dating, and lead us to main Leo's problem. He has to chose between the girl that he loves and approval by other students.

This is one great romantic book, which will make you laugh and cry. It deals with main problems of young teenegers like falling in love and trying to be accpeted by others no matter the cost.

Coraline lives with her parents in a very ordinary building full with extraordinary neighbours. This includes Miss Spink and Miss Forcible, retired actress. There is also a Mr. Bobo, whose goal is to create a mouse circus. One day she discovers secret locked door.

After this descovery, Mr. Bobo tells her that mices sent her a message. it is 'don't go trough door.' Unfortunately, Coraline is a very curious girl, and she passes this door. On the other side, she founds an apartment that looks the same as hers. She found her mother and her father, but they have buttons instead of eyes.

Everything in this other world appears to be better than in her previous life. The new mother tells her that she can stay in this new world, but only if she let her to sew buttons into her eyes. Horrified, Coraline goes back to her old apartment, but only to find out that her parents are captivated in mirror. She realizes that only way to save them is to go back and found out what her new mother did to her real parents.

One very tense book, which will force you to read it all the way, and believe me, you will not regret it.

Interesting list. I have not read any of these, but have seen Stardust the movie. I think it would be helpful if you mention the author's name and say little about them.
