ANTIQUE SOAP CARDS
Collage of antique soap cards~
Hanging in my room~
How I love the visual~
You allow me to step into. ~
At times~
You help me to pretend~
I have traveled afar~
Becoming different lives~
So I write this down to~
Preserve it in my memories~
Archives to dwell.
I often become the golden haired~
Women singing aged songs. ~
I love to see the dark maid from~
Athens under the palm tree~
As she looks exotically adorned.
Of course there is a modest bonneted girl~
Shy finger to her mouth~
As well a dapper man asking a woman~
“Dost thou love me Sister Ruth”?
There are coated warm two toddlers feeding~
A couple of colorful ducks~
Next comin thru the Rye~
A couple kisses in a field~
Until the day is nye.
A sailor suited boy~
Dreaming of his wishful sailboat ~
Another card shows a wee girl leaning on a fence~
As she spies on a boy laying on a riverbank reading~
A book on France.
Little Maggie May holds~
Her rake just so ~
While a petite girl in the baby blue hat~
Looks sad and sulky as~
She stands with nothing else to do~
“Where are you going my pretty maid”~
Is the caption that depicts a girl and her pail~
While a maiden left behind~
Sits on the dock looking forlorn as~
The water splashes the rocks she constantly mourns.
“Good bye sweetheart, Good bye”~
A red headed beauty reaches forever out to the ocean sky~
Next three sisters arm and arm look at~
A full moon on the bay~
After a long fun preening day.
A gal named Mignon just~
Stopped playing her mandolin ~
Than there comes last over a garden wall a~
School girl whom lays~
Her head dreamily in a daze~
Before school begins.
