Best friend quotes and sayings

Updated on January 8, 2013

Best friend quotes that I have found are of the same importance to every man and woman. You may be a rigorous villain, a successful businessman, a great warrior or a nutty scientist, but if you have no true best friends – you might be a lonely and unhappy person. Without anyone to trust and open your heart to, how can it be possible to live a happy life? Let’s read some best friend quotes and what others have to say about it.

Everyone’s friend is nobody’s friend. (Aristotle)

Whosoever starts making friends because it pays off, will soon end friendship. Just because it pays off. (Lucius Annaeus Seneca)

Asking…could mean closer friendship than giving. (Ffriedrich Nietzsche)

You might be having some relations with someone and still unaware if it’s good to be with him. It’s quite simple to find out. If you feel that being with him awakes purity, greatness, goodness and diligence – continue seeing him, no matter what others may be telling you about him. You are happy together and that’s what matters. And the opposite…if you start noticing confusion and end up in bad situations, if you start feeling hostility and ill-feeling towards other people and lose your enthusiasm for any actions – try not to see him anymore. Even if he is some kind of a rich businessman or celebrity – end your relationship, because it ruins your life. (Omram Michael Ivanov)

One of the key duties of a friend is living up with the strikes (in symbolic and milder sense) that we wish, but aren’t able to direct towards our enemies. (Aldous Huxley)

How could one be a friend, if he turns into the fiercest enemy at the slightest occasion? (Aldous Huxley)

I hope you are enjoying reading my best friend quotes so far and would like to make a slight introduction to a two following quotes. These will be from one of the most funny books, I have ever read – “The little prince”. The quotes are quite heart touching and very true.

If you started showing up, say, at four p.m., I will start feeling happy already from 3 p.m. And as the time goes by, I will feel only happier. At four o’clock I will start worrying. That’s, when I find out how much my happiness is worth! On the other hand, if you start showing up anytime you wish, I will never know when I have to prepare my heart. You have to maintain some ritual… (Antoine de Saint Exupery)

You’re just a boy for me, no different than other hundred thousand boys. I am a fox for you, no different than other hundred thousand foxes. Still, if you become close to me, we will need each other. Then I will be the only one for you out of the whole world and you will be the only one for me. (Antoine de Saint Exupery)

More quotes about friends

Wealth brings many friends, but a poor man is deserted by his friend. (Bible, Proverbs 19:4)

A man with too many companions comes to ruin, but a true friend sticks closer than a brother. (Bible, Proverbs 18:24)

Ho covers an offense seeks love, but who dwells on it separates close friends. (Bible, Proverbs 17:19)
If you will do nothing for your friend, all your prayers are in vane. (old Chinese folk)

There are many acquaintances, but so few friends. (old Chinese folk)

He who points at your weaknesses is not always an enemy and he who speaks of your strengths is not always your friend. (old Chinese folk)

Water is like honey when you drink it with friends. (old Chinese folk)

Whoever walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools will get in trouble. (Bible, Proverbs 13:20)

Very often human flaws influence not only their friends, but also more distant people, though the disgrace that follows covers just their friends. It’s better to end relationship with such people, but you have to do it slowly, without suddenly cutting it all. Except, if some gruesome injustice would happen… (Marco Tulio Ciceron)

The greatest thing in friendship is considering oneself to be at the same level with the inferior. (Marco Tulio Ciceron)

The oldest friends are like the oldest wine – they are the best…(Marco Tulio Ciceron)

I could go on and on, writing the best friend quotes and sayings, but I believe that’s enough, at least for now. If you want to read more interesting and wise thoughts on friends, I recommend reading some friendship quotes on this site.
