'Tween Two Doors
I stand 'tween two doors
The one behind me closing
Before me I see green paths
Stretching forth to opportunity
The creaking sound of the past
Reminds to move forward
To embrace the open space
My feet remain planted
Ankles mired in the deep
Voices urge me not to let go
To hold the closing door open with all my will
I give in to the voice
My back stubbornly braces the door
Forcing the wooden obstacle open
Why must I fight so hard?
My heart yearns to run down the green paths
Paths that have been set before me by an unseen hand
Yet I balk once more
I hold on to painful memories
These golden dreams of yesterday
When I was on top of the world
Mistress of the universe
A court never to regain
My crown exchanged for plow
Shall I let the door close?
Or shall I continue to hold fast?
I stand 'tween two doors
