Change Direction

Updated on August 13, 2013

In A Split Second

Tuesday is usually one of the quietest days of the week

Until today when things changed

Driving along the highway going seventy

I put the cruise control on

So I would not worry about going too fast

The traffic is moving along nicely

Then I see the speed on 67 and dropping

So I looked again the cruise was on

Maybe I didn't press the cruise set hard enough and it didn't take

No cause for alarm

So I pressed it again

This time the speed of the car was at 55

Now being puzzled I hit the gas and I feel no power

Well this is when I realized we have a problem

Putting on the emergency flashers

I quickly put my directional on to cut out of the fast lane to the middle lane

Then making my move to the far right lane

With all gages lighting up like the fourth of July

I watched the speed plumet

Now almost at 30

I pullled off to the side of the road

Now hitting the brakes

Soon I shut the car off and tried to figure out what has just happened

We got on the phone to Triple A and they would be out in about a half an hour

Now my wife and I had to call work

We are going to be late

Then deciding who to call for a car rental

We started dialing

First we didn't want to pay alot for a car

We might need it for a day or two until our car is fixed

Finding out to our surprise

After calling five rental places in the area

There was not one car to be found

That's rediculious car rental places without cars

I have never heard of such a thing

Now we had to call work back again

My wife and I were not going to be late

We just won't be coming in

Now after enjoying a nice friendly ride to our local mechanics shop

With the most pleasant tow truck driver

Reaching at our destination

The gas station / mechanics shop

They will call us as soon as they get a chance to look at it

Now I hope it is something like the alternator for a quick fix

Only tomorrow we can tell

A simple car problem that was easily repaired or

Major work and that would be my biggest fare

working
