Short Story. Consideration. Part(3)

Updated on November 27, 2011

My Brother an Angel?

No sooner had I fell back to sleep that night, that's according to my nurse, she said that the strangest thing had occurred. As she spoke to me,with all her colleagues looking on, with this look of astonishment, but they all had this kind of half smile, as if to say: Stop pulling our legs; you know exactly what is going.

Though I believed they knew of my twin brother, well they have to know. Nurses always share the news on what’s going on.

Mother was a nurse for some time also, and she would tell us all these stories. If a husband comes in, they will know everything about his wife, down to what car she drove. If a kid comes in they will know his entire family, in a matter of minutes and each of their character. So I knew that they knew of my brother, but quite funny not one of them and there were a few, none mentioned my brother. I am guessing it’s some sort of code, keeping the bad news away, so as not to bring ant added stress. The main nurse continued , she said, alright Pompeii , lets start again from the beginning , no sooner had she said again, this tall man with a broad smiling face appeared and before another word could be said , the man said, ok Pompeii I heard all the good and bad news, so let me hear from my patient myself.

He said ok nurse I will take it from here, since our boy here seems to be recovering by leaps and bounds, let me speak to the miracle boy man to man. With that the nurses all left, as the doctor took his, thing from around his neck and proceeded to check my heart beat and look into my eyes, with his little light. He asks me how I feel. I said fine doc. He was not the same doctor that I saw at first but, without asking he said that my doctor had an emergency and since the news about me is so good he asked me to do the honors.

Well most doctors love to give the good news first, and I did tell you that there was good and bad news, so in this instance, I will give you the Bad news first. The nurses report say that something extraordinary occurred last night, and that was, that they had given you enough pain killer and sedative to knock out an elephant, and that no sooner had you fell asleep, up you were, walking around for the entire night, and you were so eloquent with your answers and approach, that they simply kept an eye on you, and honored your request;;.

The bad news is that you have not slept a wink, and that’s quite strange given this situation. Here you are, after I have checked you out, took your pressure and temperature, everything checks out more normal, that even myself, the doctor. It’s like you were never, even a trauma patient. Your doctor and myself knows just about everything that goes on in this hospital, I knew that your brother did not make it, I am very sorry. I read about what you said to the ambulance driver and the paramedics who were at the scene, you went through quite a lot it’s even a great miracle you survived based on what the paramedics said., It’s great to meet you Pompeii. You are some man. But I am in a type of shock myself, but without and further questions , I want you to tell me what’s going on and , what made you get up and walk around for the entire night. He said ok now, it’s your turn.

I said : Well the nurses, that for whatever reason sometime during the night, I got up and started walking all around the area, and that I told everyone that came to me asking if I needed assistance, that I was fine and only needed to move around a little. They told me that I said that as long as I am not being disrespectful that this is what my better judgment is telling me to do. They said for the duration of the night I gave no trouble, but that I had this angelic look on my face, so I got a little baffled myself with that, they said that I had this kind of stare in my eyes. They checked my bandages and since there were no signs of bleeding and no sign of anything wrong whatsoever, though it was quite a surprise to all the nurses, all was fine , and that I went to use the bathroom , they looked at me , then I got into the bed.

Pompeii said Doc; I want you to listen to what I have to say quite clearly. The doctor said ok Pompeii no problem. He said doc you know that I am a…. As soon as I said that the intercom sounded Dr. Richards. Dr. Richards, please report to the emergency room immediately. His pager then went off, and the nurse came running, she said Dr. Richards, the Dr. aid I know it’s on my text but “this is Impossible’ I am with the patient, he looked around and said Pompeii I will be back, and he hurried away.
