Emphatically me

Updated on June 15, 2010

This road and I are one in the same

We have bumps and turns and twists

We have been developed over time, evolving with the times

We can see no end, for no end is there

One point begins, another point begins again

In the time since we have begun, the weather, wear and tear has etched its mark on us

We have seen many days and nights, blustery winds and harsh cold rains

But we carry this load of bumps and bruises like badges for the ages

For badges and for baggage, we are the traveller and the medium for the travel

We see no ending, we fear no passage of time

Worn and wiser, we can only get better

I see them, the travellers, they know not that they travel

Lost in the mind of the child, innocence is packed away like discarded luggage

The adult now knows the realities and truths of growing older

Long forgotten are the days of wishes and dreams and of what might be

I have long since agreed, the only thing I can be is me

All of me intact, from a sapling to an oak

I write the pages of my life in my book

Weathered and withered I will become

But I will remain, through all the blustery winds and rains

I will be the guide, the pathway for the young

I will be the 'used to be'

I will be the "is"

I will be, emphatically me

Forgotten for a moment, not a lifetime or two

I realize I am not only here for me but for you

Your time is near, you still dream of course

Some day you will take this path and know your life's course

I will have passed with the changing of the seasons

My entity still and always there for you

My badges and baggage a sign of what once was

My badges and baggage a sign of what still is

My badges and baggage a sign, for you

A road less travelled in a time less simple

The road is the journey, the journey the road

And I wish you to know everything emphatically me

Ah to have a routine to be able to immerse myself in something daily would surely be a blessing. I do miss my ocean view back home, but, I keep those memories for the really bad days ;)

...even your comments are poetic and beautiful my friend ..... yes I stopped going into the water two days ago - ironically on the first day of fall here by lake erie - I have gone into the lake everyday since the middle of May until the past weekend so that's a pretty good streak.

I walk everyday around the bay of my lake in which I call it my 'writer's walk' and I live literally 100 feet away from a lake which looks an ocean - so in the summer there is a heavenly breeze but in the fall and winter there's a biting and unforgiving wind chill factor

epigramman, nice to hear from you again. The summer was great, good weather and lots of time with my lil family. Was sad to see it end. The fall is the best season here on the East Coast. You should check out "Celtic Colors" Festival in Cape Breton, I am sure there's a website. Its still warmish..hovering at 20 degrees during the day, and 5 at night. Sweater Weather I call it! According to reports on the preview to winter it will be terse. Wind and a lot of precipitation apparently. But we're used to it ;) Right now though is likely tougher on us with humidity up, and threats of hurricanes during this part of the year, had our first 60 -70 mm of rain last weekend, high winds etc... flooding along coastal areas. More of that nowadays than in the past.

I will have to work out the kinks to produce some new stuff... though will be hitting the archives (old journals in dusty packed away boxes) new to you works coming.

...back to revisit a true classic for the ages - you are a poet's poet my friend - and I for one , would love to see you write more at the Hub - and I have come back to tell you that I am so impressed and inspired by your craft and your philosophical words of pure and deep meaning - sending you warm wishes and good energy my fellow Canadian from lake erie time ontario canada 10:11am - and how was the Canadian summer for you? We are now into fall - any idea on how the winter will be for you out that way?

Dancing Waters, as I move forth in the silvery years my lil ones will astound me with their insights and newly developed beliefs, I will have an impact on some of that, others I will not. But the words I can share with them, and the ideas I can share with the reader will ensure my continued evolution. Thanks for your kind words, and yes, we are who we are ;)

A lovely meditation on growing, evolving but always ending with being who we are. Regardless as to what life unfolds, we are who we are. Thank you for sharing you, Enigmatic!

I will be emphatic about one thing here: I am proud to be Canadian when I can read fine fine Canadian poetry like this by a fellow Canadian.

You write like Nature's child and this beauty is reflected in your words
