Enemies Abound

Updated on December 2, 2013

Enemies abound,

lurking in the darkness,

Hiding around corners,

Hiding in the shadows,

shadows left by tiny light

of pale moon and stars,

stars that on this night

are very few,.

Enemies abound,

Hardly know they┬┤re there,

so cunning are they,

Harmless, gentle souls,

refusing to believe it,

Yet true it is....... Enemies abound.

They are all around,.

The slightest sound,

gives fright to all,

Visibility almost nil,

swirling mist like

smog from ages past.

Smog so thick, a thiefs┬┤delight,

Jack the Ripper,

Criminals all.

Enemies abound ,

not only The Front Line,

where foes are there expected,

No, enemies abound,

in the stillness of the night.,

lurking in the darkness,

waiting to give you fright.!!

I was torn between thinking this was a Halloween poem and a commentary on modern society. Whichever, it is well done my friend. Some great image conjured up with your phrases, and the cadence makes for some easy reading.

      Cheers, billybuc,

It had nothing to do with Halloween. Modern society, warfare in deserts etc.,.....that´s what gives me the creeps, these days. You never quite know who the enemy is.

so glad you liked it, anyway.

      Thanks so much for commenting.

I loved it, Dim; I was afraid to go with that interpretation because that's how I think....the darkness of today's society....and I guess I figured that colored my perception of it. I think it was a simply wonderful poem and so accurate as a mirror of today.

This is why I trust no one and seldom go out after dark. :) Nicely put, dim.

The enemy is closer than most think, It is as you say, all around, it is government, it is society's acceptance of unjustified power.

We are surrounded by enemies in today's world, as you show so well. Besides those we normally think evil, politicians and big business tend to be just as guilty and sometimes even more evil in their ways. Great Job!

Our cities are filled with thugs waiting to pounce and take lives. They want to spread the fear into all our souls, the brave ones venture out, while the timid stay inside. Life is full of adventure, I don't stay in for anyone. Defending my right to live in peace, if not given to me then I will defend till my last breath against the plunder in our streets. Yes indeed my friend, enemies do abound, but we must kick them to the ground and not let them claim the night. Peace and blessings I send you this night. Beautifully put.

...yes dear Dim there are even 'enemies' and ' wolves in sheep's clothing' here at the Hub, believe it or not , because let's face it - wherever there are people you just know that shite is gonna happen - lol - yes your manifesto here of poetic concern reminds me of the headlines in the daily newspapers and the visuals on the 11oclock news - thank you for getting under my skin with this fabulous thought provoking piece - sending you very warm wishes and good energy and hoping that your fall season so far is pleasant, happy and safe. 11:09pm

Things out there in the middle of the night make a strong man die of fright. Eerily ambiguous Dim. It's even more chilling being blind to all that may be unknown and all around you. One can feel the shiver, the growing sense of dread.

Yes, THE enemy has been around for thousands of years and so his great skill at deception to divide are very real and ever-increasing in this brutal world, as the enemy knows his time is short, and he will plant those false imaginations into one's brain in the darkness of night.

I do not like speaking much of the enemy, so as to glorify him in any manner, but he is real.

He hates love, and will do all that he can to divide people, even a whole nation, as that is his speciality ----sheer deception and lies.

We must remove the veil from over our eyes, to be mindful of the enenmy's presence and put on that full armor of God.

      Voted Way Up

God bless. In His Love, Faith Reaper
