Exceeding Grace

Looking at both of them, one need not to tell you what to expect from them. You see, I had Nicholas at my prime, he was the sunshine in my life and I gave him all that a son needed from a father. He was just my replica in every way and we shared a strong bond, not the ordinary father and son bond because he meant more than a son to me.

Nicholas was highly instrumental in the man i became because he came first whenever I wanted to take a decision. And he understood what I represented in his life so in return for all I gave him which included my life, he returned pure love. Every father reading this would understand exactly what I mean when what you get from a son is nothing but love.

Julie was the love of his life and their relationship dates back to when they were young, just like what I experienced with his mother so looking at both of them, I knew that they would do better than us. Nicholas was a happy boy and with Julie, he became happier. They were young but what I saw in them wasn't what others saw because one might question what two sixteen years old knows about love.

Every sixteen years old knows that true love is rear to find, they also know that a boy and a girl were created for a purpose and one day the boy will become a man when the girl is already a woman and they will both marry each other like daddy and mummy. Every sixteen years old has life ambition and growing up and having a family is one of them.

I was seventeen when I fell in love with my own wife who was sixteen and we were blessed with Nicholas just as we finished high school so looking at Nico and his princess, I gave them what I didn't get in life, grown ups especially parents always shed teenagers away from reality when they should be stimulating them to read of life as it is lived and the prize I paid for allowing their relationship still draws my memory back to the first day I saw them together.

One of the greatest gifts a child would give a parent is appreciating the need that he was sent to school, not every child has the opportunity to enjoy such privilege so for those that are as lucky as Nico, staying and finishing in school is all that is required from them and that was exactly what Nico gave us back. Top of the engineering students and overall best the school had ever produced.

All my life I had wanted to be an Engineer but I never had the opportunity Nicolas had so right from the day he was born, I knew that a new me had come and he went on to change me as a person because a son looks upto his father but in our case, I looked up to my son in whom I am well pleased. Just like history repeating itself, he married his soul mate and that opened a brand new door.

The arrival of Nicholas Junior once again added a big milestone to my course of existence and just like what I gave Nicolas, he transfered the excess to Junior. He was there the day his child my grandson was born and ever since that day had not relented in affairs concerning him. One thing is to be a father and another thing is to be a daddy then combining the work of a father/daddy is another thing.

Looking at my son and my grandson, I cannot but keep thanking God for us. Although I am fulfilled but if my own father had been there for me, if he actually understood the essence of being a father perhaps I would have had the best daddy on this planet earth but the coward was not there and all alone I sailed the nile profoundly because of his exceeding grace. Now that my phase is fading away and Nico's in vogue, Junior's has just began. There is nothing as sweet as being a father but for a grandfather, only a grandfather would understand.

One of the things I did and will keep doing is planting kiss on my son's forehead, the fusion of such gesture is inexplecable, Nico gave me the greatest gift every daddy could ask for because being a grandfather is one of the true joys of life; it is an awesome time and I give it all to Nicolas.
