Fasting From Humanity - Prose

Updated on February 6, 2012

Can mere flesh transform consciousness?
Can a mind fasting from humanity
Recognize courage?
Compassion?
Mercy?
Justice?
Dignity?
Fairness?
When it denies itself the right to give?
Can mere flesh transform emotion?
Can a mind fasting from empathy
Recognize tears?
Pain?
Love?
Tenderness?
Loneliness?
Suffering?
When it denies itself the right to do so?
In the midst of indulgence
And vanity
Mere flesh bleeds
Until the soul has run dry

The title alone Suburban Poet is quite profound already, great work. A very deep and contemplative piece of poetry, I enjoyed reading this poem.

@Eddy - Thank you.... I was thinking of Ghandhi fasting for good things so I kind of reversed it as a self-imposed fast AGAINST the good things... starving yourself in other words by depriving your life of humanity.

@moiragallaga - I wondered if the title would be too subtle but you understand. Thank you!

@HattieMattieMae - Thank you. Yes you are right. Are you taking a break from the fight with the Troll? :)

ha ha...no...I knew better to start with......like one of my spiritual teachers once taught me that I learned along time ago, Leave the Drama and Trauma....at the same time if you ever get bored you can join them for the moment. lol I'm not bored anymore. I found better things to do with my time. Think every once in awhile I just have to get Brattie Hattie out of my system for a moment. lol

I hear you.... they don't know what I believe but they want to believe I'm an idiot because I don't walk lock-step with them. I wouldn't have any of them to a party that's for sure... of course I wouldn't want some hard core evangelist there either... just normal folks who like to have a good time and be civil....

"Brattie Hattie" sounds like she's reared her head before if she has a name!

ha ha, a name I got a few years back, because some times I like to joke around! Not so much anymore, but I've had my fun. Have to agree I've learned my lessons in life, and learned to enjoy those that don't need to argue and make their point all the time. I suppose some of us learn faster than others, and maybe some just like causing drama and trauma for others just for the fun of it, and just because they can. lol

Hi raciniwa - Thank you for reading my hubs. I appreciate your comments. There is too much suffering in the world and all I can do is write about it I guess...
